i was just wondering whatever happened to making a post on the homepage whenever games from the "Recommended Games" Section where added... i kinda miss seeing what new, recommended games where played and given a quick evaluation or mini-critique by you... cuz ive been coming to this site for over a year and a bit (something like start of GR 9 when i used to play amorphus + like crazy till now in G11)... so yeah the homepge is kinda boring without change so was just wondering if you could do that again

Two reasons.

The first reason is the clone sites have taken a much higher priority than in the past. Twice in the last year I've tried running projectcheddar.com without the clones and the traffic here dropped substantially. And by dropped substantially, I mean dropped to the point the site wasn't earning enough to even remotely cover the hosting costs, meaning I'd have to shut the site down if I didn't have the clones. Therefore the new clone sites need to be front and center, promoted at the top of the screen and not buried at the bottom of the page. Posting game reviews would push the clone site info down.

The second reason is the number of games being released now-a-days. Even just two years ago those amazing addictive flash games were few and far between, so I would play the same games for hours and develop some strong opinions on them. That just isn't happening anymore. So many game studios are popping out high quality stuff that I can't play'em like that anymore. I was finding my opinions were getting more and more generic because of the short 15 minute play sessions, and that wasn't enough time to form a real opinion. As a compromise, I tried to put more focus on the Top list and the Recommended games list, so others could help me rank and review the games.

Rest assured, every game in the recommended games lineup is put there by me, for a reason. It could be that someone in the forum recommended it, or the game could be getting really high reviews on the net, or it could have made the frontpage at Newgrounds, or occasionally a game still gets me hooked (like Rebuild). The recommended games list is my review, without the words.

I guess to sum it up. The recommended games have the games list up top and to the left with the Top list. The clone sites have the news section. It's a balancing act with so little screen space.

i mean if its to keep the clone sites going, and in turn keep the original project cheddar site going, i can't really complain. its good to know that you would not formulate opinions on flash games based on just a few minute playthroughs and you're right about the recommended bar, i usually see games there that, when i play them, are pretty awesome... what i didnt realize was that the "recommended games" bar were games uploaded by you personally (i must have missed an update that explained that or something) i thought that they were either just very highly rated or games recommended by veterans like Mr. Underestimated (who is a ledgend )...

anyways thanks for the info and ill be sure to check out the recommended games and top list more often

I never did say the Recommended Games were uploaded by me in any posting I made. Rather it was implied as I usually talked about the recommended games in the postings, so I thought people would assume I uploaded them. Anyways, it's not entirely true that I upload EVERY game in the recommended games list. Sometimes I take games from the automatic list when I think they are pretty good or some people have given them good responses.

I'll still try to make postings about games should they hook me for hours on end.
