So now that the test server is up-and-running I decided to tackle an issue that has been bothering me for a very long time. Previously on the game pages, the black game background just merged directly into the white of the webpage. It looked ugly imho, but a fix wasn't going to be easy as games came in so many different sizes, so I kept putting it off.

Well, now it's done. There is a blue curved border around the black. I've tested a few games in different browsers and the borders of each all looked good on my monitor. Could you guys let me know how it looks on your monitors, or if anything is broken with it?


Next up will be an upgrade to the game comment system as it's gotten quite out-of-date. It will be tricky as I have so much custom code in the system, and I'll also have to figure out a way for the comment buttons to work better. People just don't seem to understand that the text has to go inside the tags that the buttons produce.

ie "[bold]text here[/bold]", not "text here[bold][/bold]"

Wow, that does look a lot better then before, kinda gives it the effect as in you own the games

Maybe you should have a "tips" message in the comment box in light gray, that explains the bold, underline stuff.

I've been playing around with the latest version of the comment module on my test server and unfortunately they haven't improved how the buttons work. I was hoping they would have something similar to how Word and other text processors work, but no luck. A tips message is the only way to do this, but it has to be short and simple or the younger ones won't understand it. I'll probably just put an example right beside the buttons.

You won't believe how many times I have to edit comments because the tags were messed up.

how could people mess it up so often when there is a preview button at the bottom

heh I completely forgot about the preview button, so I never even tried it myself. Does it even work?

I still have to go through the final testing on the game pages for the comment module. I've been crazy busy lately, so I've only been managing to do game updates around here and that's it.

Actually, I don't see a preview button on the game comments Mr U. Maybe you meant on the forum instead?

After many hours of hell and me almost permanently crashing the server, I got all the options working correctly. Color and the Quote button will now display proper results. Size worked too, but I removed that option as people will just abuse it. For those that are curious what the problem was, it was an older version of PHP that was the culprit. I had to do some manual upgrading to the server core to fix it.

That's that. I fixed all issues that I saw on the game pages and comment system and I consider it done (unless I'm informed of another bug). I'm not sure what I'll do next, but I'd like to get away from upgrading components unless a major must-have release happens or some feature is requested repeatedly. I feel like my time will be better spent uploading games, spawning clone sites, and working on the MMO (yes, I haven't forgotten about it). However, all I seem to have been doing lately is working on site upgrades. So... as of now all site features work and I'm going to leave it all alone until something is reported broken; maybe I can get my focus back on games again.
